Seventies Bush

The Seventies is actually kind of a tough topic for me to blog about, at least in an "adult-entertainment" kind of way.

I was born in the perfect year for a smut-writer: '69. Which means by the end of the 70s, I was not even pubescent.

In the early 80s, though, I discovered pornographic magazines of various heat levels. At the local "trash 'n' treasure" markets, there was an old Italian guy selling not-quote-as-old Playboy magazines. Didn't seem to worry him that I was only 11 or 12. "Who buy, I don' care."

When it comes to men's magazines, Playboy probably has the highest production values (or at least did back then). And to this day, one particular name has always stuck with me.

Karen Hafter.

I admit, I had to use the Googles to get specifics, such as the fact she was Miss December, 1976. But what has always stuck with me is her smoky sensuality and her perfect raven hair; on her head and on her pussy.

My tastes have changed and grown over the years, and the slenderness of the models used by Playboy and others these days is not my thing anymore. But as a burgeoning teenager, Ms. Hafter was a goddess.

I realise now, with an extra mmphty-mmph years of experience, that what I inferred from her images has played a large part in what I find sexy as a grown man. I love all hair colours, really, but raven hair melts my knees and spine more than any other. The confidence and sensuality she exuded was both beautifully intimidating and wildly euphoric to young Willsin. It's no longer intimidating, but if anything, it's more euphoric than ever.

Plus...70s bush. My gosh, how I love 70s bush. Every magazine I bought or found back then had gorgeous women resplendent with that sensuous display of sexual maturity.

Don't get me wrong, waxed, shaped, shaven...it's all nice. But a lush playground is heavenly to this guy. I guess because of all the extras. It's a textural experience when you're down there. It's something else you can use to bring skin alive, by tweaking, pulling, or lightly stroking. And there's nothing quite so intimate as the musk of your lover, which pubic hair only accentuates.

I should probably point out that Lynda Carter, in her role as Wonder Woman (raven hair again) did her part, awakening me to the beauty of women well before I had any awareness of what those lovely hips might do for a feller.

But I do believe it was Ms. Hafter who kick-started me into puberty.

  2. It is interesting how hirsuteness has made a comeback. From a gay man's perspective, the 70's men, particularly in porn nearly all had the hairiest of chests, and big bushy mustaches and sideburns. The 90's produced images of sleek and smooth bodies and faces devoid of whiskers. Now beards are very much back in fashion, along with hairy chests. The short lived HBO gay drama 'Looking' had more hairy men than I could count. What goes around comes around I guess.

    1. I always enjoy seeing men with at least a touch of body hair. It's what we do...we grow stuff all over. Sleek and oily is great for showing defined musculature, of course, but I'm much keener on the natural look

    2. Me too! I've been known to fantasize for days over just catching a glimpse of some man's chest hair, or hairy arms. Hairy legs? Yum! And I know some guys think it makes their cocks look bigger when they're shaved, but personally? Bleah. Let me have what you got, mister, hair and all. And don't hold the sweat either. Hmmm...I may need to take a break for a bit. (snicker).

  3. Has hirsuteness made a comeback? If so, I'm grateful. And is it just for guys, or can girls have hair too?

Personally I find hair sexy (everywhere). I'm sure that's at least partly because I came of age during the sixties and early seventies, when long hair was a symbol of freedom and rebellion. But I also prefer natural to stylized attractiveness. And I fear that the current preoccupation with ridding oneself of hair stems from a distrust or distaste for nature.

I wrote about this a few years ago at the ERWA blog:

    Depilation Blues

Has the situation changed since then (2012)?

My heroines and heroes both have pubic hair. I frequently mention the fact. For all the reasons you cite, Willsin, I think it's sexy.

  4. There's been an attempt lately to re-eroticize female body hair. I don't know how much progress has been made, but there have been at least a few photos circulating of models and others proudly showing underarm hair, with the unspoken assumption that they're not bothering about shaving anywhere else, either. I personally find the idea of a preference for baby-skin smooth genitalia downright infantilizing. And rather creepy.

    1. Years ago, during the early days of MS magazine, they had an article claiming that men who preferred their women to be clean-shaven were weird, since only children are naturally hairless. Mature women have hair in lots of places. Not as much, usually as men, but enough to differentiate between old enough, and not old enough yet. What I find bizarre is the fact that so many young women have embraced this "topiary" style of decorating their privates, with strips of very short hair, or none at all. I don't understand that, just like I never got the idea that "butt-floss" (thongs) are "comfy."

But on a silly note, did you ever see the "Scary Movie" where the heroine is trying to tell the hero how hairy she is, and when he pulls her pants off, her pubic hair whacks him aside and rises up to the ceiling? Now that's a hairy woman!

  5. I agree the lack of body hair can be seen as infantilising. I did read somewhere as well (perhaps in one of Dr. Desmond Morris's books) that, taken logically, shaved faces on men is the same thing. After all, men grow facial hair when they reach sexual maturity. To shave it off mimics childhood. Again...taken on a purely logical level.

    1. I've always loved mustaches because they hold male hormones right under my nose, so I can inhale and luxuriate in them. I've never been a fan of beards much, to the extent that an old boyfriend immediately shaved his when we tried to get back together again. I was really grossed out by how he had to comb his beard after riding on his Harley, to get the bugs out. Ew!

But husband now has that "look" that most older men sport these days: the mustache that I've always loved has been joined by a chin rug that I'm not that fond of. But he prefers long hair on women and I've got mine in a very short pixie again. We're still having sex, so I guess we've learned to adapt.

    2. I've read everything by Desmond Morris that I could get my hands on! I love his insights into human nature, that make you stop and think, "Of course!"

  6. Pubic hair on women just looks so luxurious. Of course, all poon has it's good qualities, but the hair adds an element of personalization. I don't think I've ever written a story about a shaved pussy. Fucked a few, and that's just fine. Interesting what you say about men's beards as well. Something I never thought much about . One of these 'of course' moments.

    1. Even without any real facial hair, most men have a very rough face, with those tiny hairs that create 5-oclock shadow....YUMMY! I can't even imagine wanting to kiss a woman's face, since there's no scratchiness to look forward to, either on my face, or my thighs.

  7. No scratchiness to look forward to! Well, different strokes for different folks. Thanks for starting this thread, Willsin.

  8. Take heart, my friends! I have seen signs of the return of pubic hair for women. I've read some pieces about the decline of Brazilian waxes, and this is what I found with a quick google search: http://www.racked.com/2014/12/15/7564641/brazilian-bikini-wax-pubic-hair-style

I think the reasons mentioned for why people like pubic hair (scent, tactile effect, etc) are the very same reasons some people like it removed. I know that when I was younger I was always under pressure from lovers to shave. Recently, not so much, but I'm not sure if that's an effect of increased confidence on my part.
